Ocean Origo was founded in spring 1999 in the city of Göteborg
on the Swedish west coast. The office is located in the harbor
and ship yard area "Nya Varvet" which was established at the mouth
of the "Göta Älv" river according to a decision made by the Swedish
king Karl XII in 1699. From the bridge "Älvsborgsbron" one may
enjoy the scenery where the river "Göta Älv" enters
the sea and the beautiful archipelago of Göteborg begins. The
policy of Ocean Origo is to develop, manufacture and sell equipment
for oceanographic monitoring and surveillance in open ocean and
coastal waters, fjords and lakes. The company also offers services
such as oceanographic measurements and research.
The major products offered
by Ocean Origo includes the bottom-up profiler SeaTramp™,
a unique marine instrument platform which allows for long-term
unattended multicycle profiling and data collecting of most of
the measurable oceanographic parameters. One of the founders,
Sverker Skoglund, is responsible for the technical development
of SeaTramp™.
Field tests and development of Ocean Origo oceanographic equipment
takes place at the Bornö
Institute for Ocean and Climate Studies on the island of Stora
Bornö in Gullmarfjorden.
